Israeli Minister Ben Gvir Backs Gaza Settlements: “Gaza is ours”
[Elected Official’s Name],
Settlers, alongside Israeli National Security Minister Ben Gvir, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and politicians from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, marched towards Gaza’s border on Sunday, demanding entry into the Strip to establish settlements on land where Israel has spent almost three years committing genocide.  The push to permanently occupy Gaza is not a fringe position in Israeli politics, as 28 Israeli ministers and coalition lawmakers attended the settlement march.
“If they had said three years ago that we would control 70% of the territory of the Gaza Strip, no one would have believed it. I say from here: There will be Jewish settlement in all of Gaza. Encourage voluntary immigration [of Palestinians to other countries], send those who need it to their countries. And we return home. Gaza is ours.” — Israeli National Security Minister Ben Gvir.
For almost three years, Israeli officials have repeatedly laid out plans for the mass killing of Palestinian civilians, the occupation of Gaza, and the ethnic cleansing of its population. Now, 28 Israeli ministers and coalition lawmakers have openly declared their ambition to ethnically cleanse the remainder of Gaza and replace its population with Jewish settlements. The objective has always been clear: expand Israel’s settlement project into Gaza, as it has across the occupied West Bank, while making life so unbearable for Palestinians that they are forced from their land.
Two years ago, the International Court of Justice concluded that Israel’s presence in Palestine “unlawful”, its practices constituting “apartheid”, and called for the immediate evacuation of all settlers and reparations for the damage caused by occupation. Instead, Israel has further expanded its occupation, and the settlement of Gaza is gaining momentum among Israeli politicians.
As the ICJ opinion concluded, these are grave abuses of international law and human rights, in addition to the ongoing genocide being committed by the Israeli military.
You are obliged to act. I call on you to urgently:
  • Impose full, comprehensive sanctions on Israel.
  • Enforce a complete two-way trade embargo, ending all import and export activity.
  • Immediately end all arms sales and intelligence cooperation.
  • Ensure unimpeded access for aid and humanitarian organisations.
  • Demand an end to the illegal occupation.
